It's like a Stephen King novel: an ancient evil has descended upon a forest. All are oblivious to its terrible nature - all but a single horse. He knows that there is something horribly, deeply wrong with those woods, but his warnings go unheeded. The humans will have to discover it on their own... or have it discover them first.
So, yeah, Peanut thinks there is evil in the woods at the trail head. I'm glad that I didn't decide to ride since he ended up very spooky. While grooming, he kept picking up his head from his hay flake to stare across the street. As we were going in, upon closing in on the end of the woods, he sped up to a gait and we practically ran out of them. At one point, I started following his lead and he turned around, headed back towards the barn, and he ended up at the pasture before the woods leading back to the barn. He grazed at the edge, as far away from the woods as possible, and spooked twice at their mere existence. He wouldn't leave the fringe of the pasture, even though the grazing was better in the middle... closer to the woods.
The whole time he kept stopping and looking. Always back in the direction of the woods, or when in them off to one side.
He would spook at every loud noise, be it me crunching ice beneath my feet or a train blowing its horn in the distance. He would spook, and look at the woods... even if the sound didn't come from there.
Oooooooooh.

Ahahahahah
Why how very strange, the edge of the Terror Forest extends all the way to Freshwater Valley Stables and Red also is aware of the evil that lurks within. He can be on the trail at 100 different locations, and not display the ginormous idiot qualities that become evident as we approach our very own local trailhead.
